about

“...planetary alignments are thought to lead to local miasmas: concentrations of fetid air and noxious vapors... miasmas are then blown on the wind and enter men's and women's bodies through the pores of their skin. once inside they disrupt the balance of the 'humours'... and people fall sick.” from 'The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England: A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century' by Ian Mortimer, 2008.

After 1880: the centuries-held belief in diseases spreading by Miasma ( 'bad air') was replaced with germ theory (direct contact, or large, short-range droplets, such as coughs and sneezes).
20th-century trained doctors and scientists thought airborne transmission was a disproven theory relegated to the past.
By the 1980s, it was finally accepted that airborne spread was possible in measles.

2020 caught them off-guard...

Aerosol particles containing SARS-CoV-2 virus disperse through space in a similar manner to cigarette smoke.

If you can smell someone's cigarette smoke, then you could also be sharing their COVID-19 aerosol particles.

Imagine how smoke might move and you are watching the 'bad air'

... as it engulfs and blankets our little, plaguey island...

lyrics

Words (North)

Where the early signs of ending
Are declared from bankers’ halls
And the safest place to stand (we’re told)
Is a checkout, after all

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

When her elderly aunt is dying
And the world seems very cruel
You can see she’s following orders
Not applied to those who rule

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a stroll across the park
A policeman is patrolling
So don’t go there after dark
There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a breath that will not draw
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

And the backyard cats are snarling
Not a lot more I can say
Now, we’re at home forever
And cities will decay

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

You tried to ask me nicely
But I don’t know how to smile
There’re red crosses on the doorways
Of this sinking plaguey isle

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a stroll across the park
A policeman is patrolling
So don’t go there after dark

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a breath that will not draw
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

Well, there’s money when they need it
From the branches of a tree
But the capital’s magnetic
Doesn’t stick to you and me

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

So, we’re helping out the neighbours
While piling up our dead
And Dr Beak is saying
That “The Long One”’s in our head

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a stroll across the park
A policeman is patrolling
So don’t go there after dark

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a breath that will not draw
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a stroll across the park
A policeman is patrolling
So don’t go there after dark

There’s a ring-a-ring-a-roses
And a breath that will not draw
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

There’s a ring-a-ring-o'-geranium,
A pocket full of uranium,
Hiro, shima
We all fall down

Ring-a-ring-a-roses
Another doorway closes
A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down

A-tishoo, a-tishoo
We all fall down
